Abstract/Contents:"White grubs (larvae of the black turfgrass ataenius and masked chafers) were a continuous presence on cool season turf in the Palm Springs area from early July through the winter months. The most serious damage occurred during July and August. The excellent performance of Merit for white grub control at all rates tested indicates that it should remain the centerpiece of grub management strategies, especially during the summer months (June - August) when grub pressure is most severe. The data indicates that Merit activity against white grubs declined significantly, between 8 and 10 weeks after application, suggesting that two applications of Merit may be necessary to gain season-long control. Curative products such as acephate (Orthene, Pinpoint) and trichlorfon (Dylox) were also very effective grub control agents, although these products required multiple applications for season long control. Neither Dursban nor Tame provided acceptable levels of white grub control."
