Abstract/Contents:"Seed viability was evaluated at the Georgia Department of Agriculture Seed Laboratory according to AOSA germination protocols. Viability of each seed lot was used to calculate seed weight required to plant fescue at 2.5 lb viable seed/A. The trial was established in Tifton loamy sand at the Blackshank Farm, Coastal Plain Experiment Station, Tifton, GA. Six replications of six-row plots 10 feet in length were planted 17 Oct. Rows were spaced 8 inches and seed was planted 0.75 in. deep. Stand counts were taken in random 1 foot sections in each of the four center rows on 17 Nov and 5 Dec. Number of damped-off seedlings (entirely chlorotic or necrotic) were counted on Dec 5. Vigor of plots was determined 5 Dec on a 0-5 scale where 0=no emergence and 5=fully vigorous. Germination varied slightly among seed lots, but because assays were performed by an independent lab, the entire data set was not avaliable for statistical analysis. Seedling stand counts were delayed because of slow emergence. Stands were low at both dates and did not differ among treatments. Damping off in the first evaluation was less than 1%. Damping-off in the second evaluation was less than 5% and did not differ among treatments. Seedling vigor was low. Apron XL LS (0.72) treatment had greater vigor than Apron XL LS (0.36) + Maxim 4FS (0.1) and the nontreated control."
