Abstract/Contents: | Discusses an experiment designed to "examine the effect of different rates of fall potassium applications on pink snow mold development of fairway turf." "Extra potassium was applied to the fairways of the Castlegar Golf Club to determine if it would reduce pink snow mold damage in the spring. Beyond the 3 lbs./1000 ft.² potash in the regular program, extra amounts from 0.85 to 2.58 lbs./1000ft.² potash were added. Trends that can be observed from the 1998/99 study suggest that extra potassium above 1.9 lbs./1000ft.² potash (for a total of 4.9 lbs./1000ft.²) may decrease the level of pink snow mold damage in the spring. After two months, though, this difference did not continue. The areas with Poa dieback took longer to recover in the spring than all other unaffected areas despite any differences in potassium treatment." Results indicate that "extra potassium above 1.9 lbs/1000ft² potash (for a total of 4.9 lbs/1000ft²[)] may decrease the level of pink snow mold damage in the spring." |
