Abstract/Contents: | "Six turfgrass species; tall fescue, kentucky bluegrass, creeping bentgrass, common bermudagrass, centipedegrass, and perennial ryegrass were evaluated in this study. Fifty seeds of each species were placed in specially designed paper germination pouches in replicated samples and allowed to germinate in an incubator at temperatures of 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 °C for a period of 14 days exposure at each temperature. Duplicate samples were treated with the growth regulator, PGR IV, a commercially available (Microflo Co., Lakeland, FL) plant growth regulator consisting of a proprietary blend of IBA, GA and a fermentation broth. PGR IV was applied to the seed by imbibition during germination. Optimal germination temperatures were determined for each species by identifying the temperature that allowed maximum germination. The influence of PGR IV was determined by measuring and analyzing the deviation (+/-) from the optimal germination temperature. Root and shoot dry matter was measured to detect treatment differences and although some influence from PGR IV was apparent, no treatments were significant at ^Da =0.05." |
