Abstract/Contents:"A study was designed to determine the application rate for 50% growth suppression of kikuyugrass. Key results include: The rate of Primo required to maintain clipping reduction at the 50% level was determined to be 0.5 oz/1000 sq ft if applied every 4 weeks. This confirms the results obtained in a 1995 PTRI/Ciba-Geigy study on kikuyugrass fairways. At 5 weeks after treatment, there were no significant differences between non-treated and Primo treated turf, confirming that 4 weeks is the maximum interval that will insure the desired clipping reductions. There was some evidence that monthly follow-up treatments of Primo could be applied at reduced rates, without any negative impact on clipping reduction or quality ratings. This would have to be confirmed in additional field tests, however. As observed in the 1995 study, turf quality was negatively impacted for two weeks after the first application of Primo, but was positively impacted on subsequent rating dates. The first application of Primo appeared to "condition" turf, resulting in a reduced negative impact on quality following the second Primo application. The addition of iron and nitrogen to Primo produced no significant effects. This may have been due to the fact that fertilizer was applied to the test area prior to initiation of the study."
