| Abstract/Contents: | "As water becomes a more precious resource, appropriate management of irrigation on golf putting greens will become a greater challenge. An accurate, real time, permanent, moisture probe buried within a putting green and linked to a central computer would be a valued management tool. Relating moisture readings to a specific soil and turfgrass response must be determined before a probe can be used with confidence in the field. A laboratory experiment was established to determine the water content at the upper limit within a USGA specification root zone by using a Vitel HydraProbe (VHP) to determine this limit at the conclusion of free drainage. Water content measurements made by the VHP were correlated to standard water content measurement techniques." |
