Abstract/Contents:"Organic supplements for root zone mixes strongly influence soil chemical and physical properties and, therefore, putting green quality. This study was initiated to investigate the influences of organic supplements of the root zone mix on the growth of creeping bentgrass in putting green. A total of 11 treatments were replicated four times in a randomized complete block design, comprising of root zone mixes of organic amendments being blended with sand by volume from 0 to 100%. Early establishment vigor, spring green-up, and rooting development increased, but summer turf performance and overall putting green quality decreased with the content of organic soil amendment. The greater the content of the organic soil amendment in the root zone mixes, the higher the soil moisture retention, but the lower the hydraulic conductivity. These results suggest the sand and organic amendments should be blended at a reasonable ratio, based on the consideration of turf growth and soil physical properties."
