| Abstract/Contents: | "The study was conducted at the Valentine Turfgrass Research Center, University Park, PA, on perennial ryegrass, maintained under low management conditions, mowed once per week at 2.0" cutting height. The soil was Hagerstown silt loam with soil pH 6.9. No fertilization or pesticide applications were made to the test site during the 1998 growing season. The experimental area was irrigated only when wilting was evident. The treatment plots, 3 ft x 10 ft, were arranged in a randomized complete block with four replications. Treatments were applied on 1 and 15 Sep with a CO₂-powered boom sprayer, using TeeJet 8004 nozzles, at 40 psi, in water equivalent to 2 gal per 1000 sq ft. Turf quality was poor and crown rust was severe when this study was initiated. Crown rust was evaluated on 1 Oct. Data were subjected to analysis of variance, and the mean values were separated by Duncan's New Multiple Range Test (P=0.05). The three rates of Heritage, Daconil Ultrex, and Bayleton provided excellent control of crown rust on 1 Oct, despite poor turfgrass growth to low fertility and dry soil. The Fore treatment did not provide satisfactory control." |
