Abstract/Contents:"A survey of turfgrass species/cultivar use, as well as mowing and fertility practices was conducted on 174 golf courses operating in Oklahoma during 1992. A 34% response rate was received after two mailings and one phone call to nonrespondents. Common and hybrid bermudagrasses, Japanese zoysiagrass, and buffalograss were the most commonly used species on fairways and tees. Creeping bentgrass was the most commonly used putting green surface, although hybrid and common bermudagrass were also used on a small number of courses. Results from the mowing and fertility segment of the survey have been useful in designing simulated golf course tee, fairway and rough conditions used when screening large numbers of bermudagrasses as a part of a breeding and development program. Species/cultivar usage results are also useful as baseline values from which to track acceptance of new turfgrass releases by the golf turf industry."
