| Abstract/Contents: | "Gray leaf spot caused by the fungus Pyricularia grisea (Cooke) Sacc. can devastate perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) given hot, humid conditions. The objectives of this study are to 1) determine if varietal resistance to gray leaf spot on perennial ryegrass is stable over two locations and 2) determine if a positive correlation exists between inoculated greenhouse and field evaluations of gray leaf spot on perennial ryegrass. Turf plots include 49 perennial ryegrass varieties and one Kentucky bluegrass control over two locations in Illinois. We will report differences in disease severity among the different varieties over the two locations. Two hundred perennial ryegrass accessions have been planted in the greenhouse and in the field for disease evaluations. The correlation between greenhouse and field evaluations will be reported. Preliminary greenhouse screening has been effective for identifying differences in disease severity." |
