Abstract/Contents:Describes how "grain is simply the direction grass grows" and influences the slope, "where water flow and gravity tend to lay grass blades downhill." Suggests that "most PGA Tour courses have weak grain in the greens. This is a result of regular cultural practices, including daily changes in mowing direction, verticutting and turf grooming, topdressing, and brushing." Briefly suggests that "television can depict the general lie of the land on which the course is built in relation to the green," but does not catch the contours of the course.
