Abstract/Contents: | "The fatty acid methyl ester, FAME, technique was used to identify microbial community structure changes in soils associated with three turfgrass species. The research objective was to identify seasonal microbial community structure changes in soils associated with Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis), tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea), and buffalograss ( Buchloe dactyloides). Soils from all species were sampled for FAME analysis during 1998. Preliminary results indicate differences in microbial community structure based on both turfgrass species and sampling date. For the July sampling, the FAME profiles of the Kentucky bluegrass and tall fescue soils were similar, and different from the profiles observed for buffalograss. For the April and September samplings the trends were not as clear, but there is evidence of differences in FAME profiles among species." |
