| Abstract/Contents: | "The objective of this study was to relate foliar nitrogen concentration to turfgrass quality and dollar spot severity over time. Nine year old creeping bentgrass/annual bluegrass field plots have been maintained at 1.27 cm. since fall 1996. Nitrogen fertilizer was supplied as either an inorganic complete fertilizer, compost, or a combination of the two. Clippings yields were collected at regular intervals throughout the growing season and analyzed for total N. Visual assessments of turf quality were made based on color and density with a 1-9 scale and via the use of multispectral radiometry. Dollar spot severity was assessed with a grid and digital image analysis. The relationships between foliar N concentration irrespective of N source to both turfgrass quality and dollar spot severity were determined. The relative contribution of the compost and inorganic fertilizer to foliar N was also investigated." |
