| Abstract/Contents: | "The presence of thatch complicates prediction of pesticide transport in turf systems. This study was conducted to evaluate the transport of triclopyr (3,5,6-trichloro-2-pyridinyloxyacetic acid) in soil columns containing a surface layer of either bentgrass (Agrostis palustris Huds.) or zoysiagrass (Zoysia japonica Steud.) thatch and for columns devoid of thatch. Following the use of bromide as a convective tracer, 0.63 kg triclopyr ha(^-1) was surface applied to undisturbed columns under a non-ponding unsaturated conditions (flux of ca. 1 cm h(^-1)) and leachate samples collected for 24 hours. Bromide transport presented strong evidence of significant two domain flow in all columns except zoysiagrass site soils. Triclopyr leaching was 8% less for columns with a zoysiagrass thatch layer than soil columns devoid of thatch. The absence of similar differences in the bentgrass columns was partially attributed to the preferential flow in these columns." |
