Abstract/Contents:"Five turfgrass fungicides were tested with repeated spray applications for preventing algal crust development on a bermudagrass golf green. Treatment effectiveness was evaluated by visual observations of algae establishment and surface color change (0-4 max) 5 days following treatments. Algal crusts were mechanically disrupted by verticutting, prior to the initial algicide application and before the seventh week applications. Although all fungicide treatments gave noticeable algae control compared to the untreated controls, the Daconil Zn® (9.0oz/1000ft²) treatment applied at 14-day intervals over a 50-day period exhibited the greatest level of algae control and significantly greater than all other fungicides tested. The experimental fungicide IB11522 applied at 6.0oz/1000ft² and 4.0oz/1000ft² at 14-day intervals gave the next greatest level of algae control, followed by the Daconil 2787® (9.0oz/1000ft²) applied at 7-day intervals. Fore® applied at 6oz/1000ft² at 7-day intervals gave significantly less control than the other fungicides containing zinc. The Algaen-X® fungicide (1.6oz/1000ft²), applied with three different volumes of applied spray gave similar results as Fore®."
