Abstract/Contents:"The objectives of the study were to select cultural practices to aid in the proper management of shaped putting greens and to gain further knowledge about the physiological response of turfgrass found under shaded conditions. Two shade structures covered by 40% irradiance green shade cloth were constructed in (Agrostis palustris Huds.) var. 'Penncross' green to simulate low light conditions. Trinexapac-ethyl (0.028 and 0.047 kg ha-1) was applied at 2 and 4 week intervals from June through October in 1999. Plots were mowed at 4 mm daily and nitrogen was applied at a rate of 170 kg ha-1 y-1. Light intensity, air and soil temperature and humidity probes were located inside the shade structures for data collection. Analysis of light quality was also examined. Clipping yield, visual quality, Poa annua encroachment, color, disease occurrence and carbohydrate reserves were evaluated. Data and conclusions will be discussed."
