| Abstract/Contents: | "An experiment was conducted to study the effects of trinexapac-ethyl (TE) on water and nitrogen balance in 'Tifway' bermudagrass. Turf was established in growth chambers in column lysimeters filled with a medium sand and equipped with vacuum extraction cups to collect leachate. Clippings were used to assess TE efficacy and tissue N allocation. TE was applied twice at 0.11 kg ai/ha. Ammonium nitrate at 49 kg N/ha was applied three times at monthly intervals, beginning 2 weeks after TE was first applied. Separate columns received ¹⁵N-labeled material for the first two N applications. Irrigation was applied 3 times weekly to a 2 cm depth. TE did not affect water use during the experiment. Cumulative leached nitrate was unaffected by TE after the first two N applications but less nitrate leached from TE-treated columns after the third N application, suggesting higher N demand in shoot tissues following periods of growth inhibition." |
