Abstract/Contents:Average fresh wt. of timothy haplocorms in plants cut to a ht. of 10 cm declined from about 0.4 g in intact plants to 0.1 g 12 days after cutting and total sugar content fell by about 20% during 20 days after cutting. In water-soluble extracts of corms protein content increased markedly for 4 days after cutting, remained little changed for 8 days and then fell sharply; fructosan, sucrose and fructose contents declined continuously and fructosan- and sucrose-hydrolysing activity reached peaks 4 and 12 days, resp., after cutting.
