Abstract/Contents: | "Large-scale revegetation of barren lands can be accomplished by surface broadcasting of fertilisers and commercial grass seed but establishment of seedlings is usually erratic. In an attempt to improve germination and seedling establishment, different seed coats were tested on Poa pratensis (Kentucky-bluegrass) that is often used in Iceland as a pioneer species in revegetation. Seedling establishment was significantly higher when seeds were coated with the growth regulator cytokinin and diatomaceous earth compared to uncoated seed and seed coated with water retaining polymer." |
