Abstract/Contents: | "This trial was conducted on a golf course rough at Sagamore-Hampton Golf Club, North Hampton, NH. Plot sizes were 49 ft², replicated seven times per treatment. One treatment of Naturalis-T and Mach-2 was applied on 20 Jul (at egg-laying to 1^D]s^D]t instar) and 2nd treatment on 5 Aug at 2ⁿ^D]d instar. Third treatment of Mach-2 was applied on 26 Aug at 3^D]r^D]d instar. The granular Mach-2 (1^D]s^D]t application) was applied with commercial salt shakers. All other treatments were applied with a 2-wheel bicycle-type boom sprayer, equipped with four 8005 nozzles, fitted with 50-mesh screens; the screens were removed for the Naturalis-T applications. Liquids were delivered using CO₂ pressure at 40 psi; the volume of water and insecticide mix per plot was 2gal/1000ft². Naturalis-T plots were irrigated before and after treatment with 0.25 inch and 0.5 inch of water, respectively. Application conditions were as follows: on 20 Jul: air temp, 83°F; sky, hazy; wind, <5mph; soil surface temp, 82°F; at 1-inch depth, 78.4°F; at 2-inch, 76.6°F, moisture 20.8%; on 5 Aug: air temp, 86.7°F; sky, hazy, wind, <5mph; soil surface temp, 81.5°F; at 1-inch, 81.3°F; at 2-inch, 76.8°F; moisture, 23.9%; 26 Aug: air temp, 84.6°F; sky, clear; soil surface temp, 84.6°F; at 1-inch, 86.9°F; at 2-inch depth, 79.7°F; moisture, 23.5%. General soil conditions were as follows: pH, 6.6; organic matter, 10.6%; soil texture, loam; sand, 48%, silt, 40%; clay, 12%; thatch depth (natural), 0.5 inch. The plots were rated for live EC grubs on 24 Sep by cutting the sod with a 12" sod cutter and peeling back 1ft² of turf per plot. None of the treatments provided satisfactory control. Mach-2 worked best when applied to the second instar. No phtotoxicity was observed." |
