Abstract/Contents:"Thirteen relatively new bermudagrass genotypes, as well as Tifdwarf and Tifgreen bermudagrass, and Diamond zoysiagrass (Zoysia matrella) were established for this study by plugging. After establishment, half of the study was mowed at 0.125 inch and the other half at 0.188 inch. At the 0.125 inch height of cut, only Mini-Verde, Champion and TifEagle received quality ratings in the highest statistical group on all 3 rating dates. In addition, Tif94-18, MS Supreme, Floradwarf, Lakewood, Mobile and TXDB 67 were rated in the highest group for quality on 2 of the 3 dates. At the 0.188 inch mowing height, Tif 94-18, Tif 94-21, Tif 94-29 and Tif 94-16 were the only genotypes to be rated in the highest statistical group for quality on all 3 rating dates. The plots were rated visually for summer color in late August, when, at the 0.125 inch mowing height, Mini-Verde exhibited better summer color than all others except TifEagle, Champion, Tifdwarf, and TXDB 67, all of which received ratings in the top statistical group. When mowed at 0.188 inch, Tif94-18 produced better summer color ratings than all other genotypes except Tif94-21. Only Champion produced better summer color ratings at 0.125 inch than at 0.188 inch mowing heights, and Tifdwarf exhibited the same color at either mowing height. Fall color ratings were obtained after a cool spell in mid October and in early November. Tif94-18 maintained green color the best overall, as it was the only genotype that produced fall color ratings in the top statistical group on both days regardless of mowing height. No other grasses were rated in the top statistical group for fall color for both dates within either mowing height regime."
