Abstract/Contents: | Briefly examines the issue of artificial vs natural turf on soccer fields in the UK. Profiles the Grassmaster system developed by Desso in the Netherlands. Grassmaster "is the integration of natural grass with synthetic grass fibers. The rootzone is injected with polypropylene threads which entwine with the grass roots." Examines the positive results obtained when a heavy pitch in Upton Park was renovated and installed with a Grassmaster system and a Sub-Air drainage and heating system. Discusses the installations of these systems by John Hewitt, director of Hewitt Sportsturf. Also describes maintenance of the Grassmaster system. |
