| Abstract/Contents: | Seeds of timothy ecotypes collected from 20 sites in Hokkaido and from 3 cv. were germinated at 5 constant temp. from 10 to 30 deg C and (a) final germination percentage, (b) av. number of days to germination and (c) germination uniformity were determined. (a) was negatively correlated with both (b) and (c), and (b) was positively correlated with (c). Principal component analysis divided the 20 populations into 2 groups. The 1st group consisted of 4 populations collected to the W. of the Hidaka mountains which showed a max. germination at 20 deg , and lower (a) and slower and less well synchronized germination than the other populations from E. Hokkaido. Multiple regression analysis showed that most of the variation among populations was due to av. monthly temp. and monthly precipitation during winter. The 3 cv. had similar characteristics to the 2nd group of genotypes. |
