| Abstract/Contents: | Suggests using bermudagrass for overseeding sports fields in the summer because it is "much easier to establish during the summer and has excellent wear tolerance." States that although bermudagrass goes dormant after the first frost in fall, it fits better into most reseeding schedules. Examines research determining the feasibility of using bermudagrass. Several cultivars were rated for quality and traffic tolerance and compared to tall fescue and Kentucky bluegrass. Concludes that "bermudagrass is a feasible alternative on athletic fields in the northern United States when the window of opportunity for overseeding occurs during the heat of the summer." |
