Title:Influence of vegetation types on the intensity of ammonia and nitrogen dioxide liberation from soil
Source:Soil Biology & Biochemistry. Vol. 5, No. 1, 1972, p. 163-166.
Keywords:TIC Keywords: Pinus densiflora; Quercus; Nitrogen cycle
Abstract/Contents:In a study in Korea, the average amounts of NH3 lost per week from a Pine stand (mainly Pinus densiflora), a mixed Oak stand, and grass cover (predominantly Zoysia japonica) in May-July 1971 were 3.41, 2.62 and 1.84 kg/ha respectively. The rates of volatilization of N dioxide in July from these three vegetation types did not differ significantly. The amounts of NH3 and of N dioxide lost from different soil layers by volatilization followed the same pattern; in the Pine stand, losses were greatest from the topsoil but decreased with depth; in the Oak stand and grass, losses from the topsoil and from depths of 15 and 30 cm did not greatly differ.
