| Abstract/Contents: | Growth retardants alone and in combination with broadleaf herbicides, fungicides and surfactants and trim-mowing practices were evaluated on four, cool season, close-cut lawn grasses. Most favorable results with vegetative and seedhead suppression were obtained with mefluidide, MH alone and a combination of MH with CF or ethephon. All materials caused some degree of injury or discoloration. Growth retardants were effective when used with broadleaf herbicides (2,4-D, dicamba, mecoprop and silvex), fungicides (benomyl, chlorothalonil and quintozene) and surfactants (AL 1448, Pace and X-77). Fungicides reduced leaf spot on colonial bentgrass and appeared to reduce overall injury to Kentucky bluegrass from growth retardants. Trim mowing one week following treatment did not reduce effectiveness of growth retardants. |
