Abstract/Contents:"Fungicide treatments were each applied to a 37.5 ft² area of a ryegrass overseeded-bermudagrass nursery green that had a history of algae infestation. The turf area was maintained as a putting green cut at 3/16 inch. Each fungicide treatment was replicated 4 times in a complete randomized block design. Treatments were applied 'curatively' at rates and intervals indicated by the manufacturer, with the first treatment application on 27 June 1996 and the last applied on 6 Aug. 1996. All fungicides except Heritage and Banol were applied at a delivery volume of 7 gal/1000 ft² using a pressurized CO₂ sprayer at 30 psi. The Banol and Heritage treatments were applied at a delivery volume of 5 gal/1000 ft² using the pressurized CO₂ sprayer at 30 psi. Data on algae control was recorded 5 d after each of the weekly chemical applications. Each treatment was assigned a visual index of algae control (0=dark green; 4=brown, maximum control) based upon the algal mat color. Repeated spray applications of 17 turfgrass fungicides were tested for algal crust control on an overseeded-bermudagrass golf green. All Daconil fungicide formulations gave noticeable control to algal crusts compared to the untreated control. Daconil Weatherstik applied weekly at 6.24 oz/1000 ft² also appeared to increase turfgrass health and vigor. Applications of the fungicides, Banol (4.0 oz/1000 ft²), Koban (6 oz/1000 ft²), were applied weekly and Heritage (0.40 oz/1000 ft²) applied at 14-d intervals gave no algae control after 5 wk. The experimental fungicide RH0611 WP (6.0 oz/1000 ft²) applied at 14-d intervals gave similar algae control as Daconil Ultrex (5.67 oz/1000 ft²) applied at either 7- or 14-d intervals."
