| Abstract/Contents: | "A preliminary laboratory evaluation was conducted on one commercially formulated isolate each of Beauveria bassiana (Balsamo) Vuill. and Metarhizium anisopliae (Metsch.) Sorokin (green muscardine disease) for control of the southern chinch bug, Blissus insularis Barber (Hemiptera: Lygaeidae). This test also was an evaluation of the technique itself. Results indicate that the technique needs further refinement in order to reduce non-treatment related mortality among the test insects to more acceptable levels. Even so, one treatment involving B. bassiana plus a non-ionic wetting agent and one treatment involving M. anisopliae produced statistically significant levels of chinch bug mortality. Further tests are planned using more realistic cage conditions." |
