| Abstract/Contents: | "Two hundred USDA perennial ryegrass introductions obtained from the USDA Western Regional Research Station, Pullman, WA, were evaluated for resistance to gray leaf spot. The experimental design was a randomized complete block replicated three times. Each experimental unit consisted of three 4-cm diameter cones. Four-week old perennial ryegrass seedlings were sprayed with a suspension of P. grisea conidia. Inoculated plants were maintained under a clear plastic tarp with frequent misting at 28-32°C. This provided warm, humid conditions which are conducive for infection. The percent symptomatic turf was rated 5 to 6 days after inoculation. Significant differences in disease ratings were observed among the perennial ryegrass introductions inoculated. Nearly ll plants were killed within 3 weeks of the mist tent. Regrowth was observed in several of the cones after 2 months in the mist tent. This plant material will be propagated for further evaluation." |
