| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses a study designed "to look at the effects of amendments (peat, coconut coir and zeolite), nitrogen fertility (organic vs. inorganic sources) and carbon supplementation (carbon vs. no carbon) on the growth, quality and rhizosphere microbial activity of 'Penncross' turf grown on an amended sand base." Results of the study indicate that "it was evident that any amendment improved the water and/or nutrient-holding capacity on a sand-based profile could contribute to improved turf quality" and that "there was some evidence to support the contention that organic nitrogen sources could enhance turfgrass performance." Also reports that "the impact of carbon supplementation was evident in both turf quality and microbial community development." |
