Abstract/Contents:Presents research determining "how Kentucky bluegrass responds to fertilizers that contain different forms and types of nitrogen" and "to test the idea that if clippings are left on the lawn, their decompostion releases nitrogen back to the grass to the extent that the amount of fertilizer nitrogen required to maintain satisfactory color is reduced by approximately 1/3." Lists the average color rating for 12 different fertilizers on plots with clippings removed or mulch mowed. "Results from last year confirmed that mulch mowing allows for a 1/3 reduction in the nitrogen rate without a significant reduction in turfgrass color...[and that] the natural organic fertilizers, as a group, have not provided as much color in the turfgrass as have the synthetic fertilizers."
