Abstract/Contents:"A study of fertilizer zinc sources, ZnSO4, ZnO, and ZnS, was continued for 4 years on Leon fine sand (Aeric Haplaquod). Plant uptake of Zn by a mixed sward from ZnSO4 and ZnO was significantly greater than that from ZnS. Uptake from ZnS was not significantly greater than that from soil without added Zn. The same general trends were noted in the quantity of Zn extracted from soil by 0.1 N HCl and 1.0 HCl procedures and in saturated soil solution extracts. Soil treatments with very strong acids such as aqua regia removed as much Zn from the ZnS fertilized soil as from the ZnSO4 and ZnO treatments. It was concluded that the Zn ion concentration in the soil solution was high enough to prevent the dissolution of ZnS in this soil."
