Abstract/Contents:Presents a research project "to study the fate of pesticides and fertilizers applied to turfgrass in an environment which closely resembled golf course conditions on greens and fairways...[in order to] obtain information on management practices that will result in healthy, high quality turfgrass while minimizing detrimental environmental impacts." Results from this study indicate that when when fertilizer treatments are applied every two weeks, less than one percent of nitrate nitrogen was leached, "leaching of 2,4-D was very low in soils that contained some clay to absorb the pesticide", "less than one-tenth percent of the carbaryl (Sevin) leached (regardless of soil type)." Notes that "little volatilization of 2,4-D was measured...from any of the plots", "little volatization of carbaryl was measured...from any of the plots", and "neither fertilizer type nor irrigation amount caused any significant differences in the quality of the turfgrass."
