Abstract/Contents:"A study was conducted to evaluate effects of nitrogen (N) rate and clipping management of three turfgrass species on turfgrass quality and weed incidence. Four N rates (0, 1.3, 2.7, and 4.0 lbs./1000 sq ft/yr.) were applied to tall fescue in two split applications and to bermudagrass and St. Augustinegrass in three applicatins using (NH₄)₂SO₄. Clipping management treatments were collecting (bagging) or recycling (mulching) grass clippings. No significant interaction was found between N rate and clipping management with respect to turfgrass quality or wee numbers. On most sample dates, only the highest N rate resulted in turfgrass quality which was statistically greater than the control (no applied N). On all sampling dates, recycling grass clippings resulted in turfgrass quality as high or higher than that of collecting grass clippings. Neither the N level nor the clipping management treatments influenced weed incidence in the three turfgrass species."
