Abstract/Contents:The 22 perennial ryegrass cultivars in this trial were established in 1979. The study has been maintained at a 2 inch mowing height and is fertilized with 3 lb N/1000 ft2/yr. The area receives no fungicide or insecticide applications. Cultivars were evaluated monthly from May to October. The 1987 season is the final year that data will be collected from this area. Elka; Yorktown; Fiesta; Loretta; and Belle received the highest overall quality rating in 1987. Regal and Pennfine ranked unusually low, believed due to development of brown patch. It is not unusual for certain cultivars to deteriorate in quality in older trials.
