| Abstract/Contents: | Describes a 1987 preemergence crabgrass control study located at the Horticulture Research Station on Nicollet (fine-loamy, mixed mesic, Aquic Hapludall) soil with a pH of 7.2, 15 lb/A phosphorus (p), 120 lb/A potassium (K), and 2.3% organic matter. The grass on the site is Vontage Kentucky bluegrass. Fourteen different chemicals were applied. Treatment were applied on April 16, 1978, to 25 ft2 plots in three replications. The area had a natural stand of crabgrass in the 1986 season. Crabgrass seed was applied to the area on April 20, at a rate of 0.5 lb/1000 ft2. The plot area was observed weekly through the season for phytotoxicity. No visible signs of phytotoxicity were observed on any of the treated plots at any time during the season. Estimates of crabgrass cover on the plots were made on July 15 and September 3. The very moist conditions in mid-summer resulted in less than complete crabgrass controls by many products. Complete prostrate spurge control was observed in some plots. The second tables contains information to evaluate increasing rates of Ronstar 50ME. This material was effective but not against spurge. |
