Abstract/Contents:Describes the symptoms of black layer on bentgrass, including "thinning, poor growth, and even death following extended periods of hot weather." Discusses some of the causes of black layer and suggests some solutions. States that "the best solution to the problem on many old greens will be to rebuild to proper specifications, install a good irrigation system, and alter the surrounding environment."
