| Abstract/Contents: | Chlorflurenol (methyl 2-chloro-9-hydroxyfluorene-9-carbo- xylate, methyl 9-hydroxyfluorene-9-carboyxlate, methyl 2,7-dichloro-9-hydroxyfluorene-9-carboxylate), MH (1,2-dihydro-3,6-pyridazinedione), Sustar (3-trifluoromethyl -sulfonamido-p-acetotluidide), EL-509 (undisclosed), MBR 12325 (undisclosed), and Ro7-6145 (undisclosed) were applied to Merion Kentucky bluegrass to evaluate growth retardation and injury. MBR 12325 4EC and Ro7-6145 retarded growth more than the other materials. These two materials also caused severe discoloration that lasted approximately four weeks. MBR 12325 1G retarded growth nearly as much as MBR 12325 4EC, but did not cause as much injury. EL-509 retarded growth comparable to MH only at the highest rate, however injury was severe at that rate. All treated turf in this experiment produced more top growth than untreated turf beginning approximately the fourth week after treatment. Reapplication of all materials reversed this phenomenon, but approximately five weeks after reapplication, treated turf again grew faster than untreated turf. |
