| Abstract/Contents: | The effectiveness of five herbicides applied on 6 different dates is studied. The dates range from late fall of 1985 to late spring of 1986. Herbicide rates were 2 lb ai/A (Benefin), 7.5 lb ai/A (Bensulide), 7.5 lb ai/A/1.5 lb ai/A (Bensulide/Devrinol), 10.5 lb ai/A (Dacthal), and 1.5 lb ai/A (Pendimethalin). Crabgrass counts were taken July 16 and September 2. Prostrate spurge plants were also counted September 2. App treatments significantly reduced the number of crabgrass plants compared to the non-treated control. However, the presence of 5 or more crabgrass plants per plot is considered unacceptable. The only treatments which provided adequate control were: Bensulide/Devrinol on March 20 and April 5; Dacthal on April 4, 18 and May 6; and Pendimethalin on May 6. None provided satisfactory control when applied in the first week of March. None of the herbicides gave complete control of spurge although Betasan/Devrinol seems to have potential. |
