Abstract/Contents:The effectiveness of seven products as well as core cultivation is studied. The study area consisted of a one year old stand of midnight Kentucky bluegrass mowed at 2", irrigated to prevent moisture stress, and received 4 lb N/1000 ft2 per year sulfur coated urea. Soil compaction was applied by a smooth power roller that exerted a static pressure of 2.5 kg cm-2. Compaction was applied twice, May 16 and June 2. Measurements taken include visual quality, shoot density, verdure, bulk density, total porosity and air-filled porosity. After much review of data and statistics, none of the data taken showed any significant difference. Possible reasons are undecomposed roots in the study area and a thatch layer of 3/4" to 1 1/2" prior to compaction application.
