| Abstract/Contents: | Herbicides were evaluated on Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratenses L.) for post- and preemergence control of yellow nutsedge (Cyperus esculentus L.). The effect of herbicide treatments on nutsedge populations in the following season was also investigated. Excellent postemergence control with but slight grass injury was provided by certain treatments of bentazon, cyperquat, DSMA, or perfluidone. Results with HOE-23408, HOE-22870, methazole, MSMA, NC-8438, PP831, and RO-10-6594 were not satisfactory. Perfluidone was effective for preemergence control while cyperquat and napropamide were ineffective. There was a natural decrease without chemical control varying from 45 to 98 percent in the nutsedge population in the second season under sod conditions. There was an additional nutsedge reduction in areas treated the previous season with AMA, bentazon, cyperquat and DSMA. |
