Abstract/Contents:Discusses the "two principal objectives in the [drainage system] design of natural-turf athletic fields" of playability and agronomic concerns. Discusses the three factors of subsurface drainage being soil permeability, water travel distance, and "the driving force acting on water movement." Profiles vacuum-assisted drainage technology and presents two studies on the effectiveness of vacuum-assisted drainage, one using a drain line trench and the other using Advanede pipe. Results indicate that "vacuum assisted drainage does beneficially impact removal and redistribution of water in a soil profile."
