| Abstract/Contents: | Experiments were conducted in turfgrass to evaluate herbicides for preemergence control of smooth crabgrass [Digitaria ischaemum (Schreb.) Muhl.] and goosegrass [Eleusive indica (L.) Gaertn.]. Effectiveness of herbicides was based on percent control of weedy grasses and the degree of injury to permanent grasses. Effective crabgrass control (90-100%) was provided by bensulide, butralin, DCPA, napropamide, oxadiazon, prosulfalin, HOE-22870, and PPG-139. Good control (80-90%) was provided by siduron and fair control (70-80%) by benefin and fluchloralin. Poor control (less than 70%) and/or objectionable turf injury was achieved by H-22234, H-25893, H-26910, NC-8438, PP-888, and VEL-5052. Nine herbicides were evaluated for goosegrass control and of those, butralin, DCPA, oxadiazon, and H-22234 provided effective control. |
