Abstract/Contents:"The remote sensing of turfgrass canopy temperatures was evaluated in order to investigate the potential development of a crop water stress index for bermudagrass turf. An empirical model, based on vapor pressure deficit, was unseccessful for use, since it proved to be highly correlated with solar radiation. An additional empirical model was developed, which included vapor pressure deficit and solar radiation. This second model was more environmentally stable, but on occasion violated the conceptual and theoretical limits of the mathematical model. Two additional models were developed using a formulation of the vertical energy balance equation. Using an aerodynamic resistance from fully stressed turf of 20 s/m, and an unstressed canopy resistance of 72 s/m, a stable model was devised for bermudagrass turf mowed at 3-4 cm."
