| Abstract/Contents: | Seven experimental and five commercially available herbicides were evaluated alone and in various combinations in two studies during 1974 and 1975 to determine their effect upon blackseed plantain (Plantago rugelii Dcne.), White clover (Trifolium repens) and buckhorn plantain (Plantago lanceolata L.) in cool season turf. Materials were tested on a mixed turf containing Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.) and creeping red fescue (Festuca rubra L.) in 1974 and perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) and Kentucky bluegrass in 1975. Complete control of blackseed plantain and white clover was achieved in 1974 with a granular (G) containing 1% 2,4-D (2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid) + 1/2% mecoprop (2-[(4-chloro-o-tolyl) oxy] propionic acid) + 1/2% Dichloroprop (2,4-dichlorophenoxy propionic acid) at the rate of 1 + 0.5 + 0.5 lb/A and 2 + 1 + 1 lb/A, an emulsifiable concentrate (EC) formulation of 2,4-D + silvex (2,4,5-trichloropropionic acid) + dicamba (3.6 dichloro-o-anisic acid) at 2 + 1 + 0.25 lb/A and an (EC) formulation of 2,4-D + MCPP + Dicamba at 1.1 + 0.55 + 0.11 lb/A. Complete control of white clover and buckhorn plantain was achieved in 1975 with an (EC) formulation of 2,4-D + silvex + dicamba at 1.0 + 0.5 + 0.125 lb/A. |
