Abstract/Contents: | "This trial was conducted on a practice green at Campbell's Scottish Highlands Golf Course, Salem, NH. All treatments were applied to 64ft² plots on 6 Aug; due to questionable results of the Tempo treatments giving no control, a second trial with Tempo wsa set up 20 Aug on new plots using a different batch of product. All treaments were applied using a 7-ft boom on a 2-wheel, bicycle-type CO² sprayer. The boom was equipped with four 8004 fan-type nozzles, fitted with 50-mesh screens. The volume of water and insecticide mix was 2gal/1000ft², delivered at 40 psi. None of the treatments were irrigated, except that with 0.08lb DeltaGard, which was irrigated immediately with 1 inch water. The entire green received daily irrigation of 0.1-inch of water, thereafter. The weather conditions on 6 Aug were as follows: sky, sunny; wind, light; air temp, 75.1°F; soil surface temp, 75.9°F; at 1-inch depth, 74.7°F; weather conditions for both trials were very similar. Soil composition was a follows: texture, loamy sand; silt, 4%; sand, 88%; clay, 8%; organic matter, 1.9%; moisture, 13.0%; pH, 7.3. To rate the trial, 6-inch diamter PVC cylinders were embedded into the plots and approximately 20 larvae added to each. The cylinders were incorporated with 3^D]r^D]d instar larvae, 7, 14 and 28 DAT, and rated 3, 4 and 4 days later, respectively. Live larvae were counted by saturating each cylinder with a Joy dish soap solution, forcing larvae to the turf surface. At 10 DAT, heavy irrigation reduced the efficacy of DeltaGard (0.08lb) but control was still acceptable. The efficacy of Talstar (0.39lb) was unacceptable. All other treatments performed well. By 18 DAT, only Dursban, the higher rates of Tempo Ultra (0.1lb), Talstar (0.1lb), and DeltaGard (0.08lb and 0.06lb) were acceptable. At 31 DAT, no treatment gave good control. No phytotoxicity was observed." |
