Abstract/Contents:An evaluation trial was set up in 1982 at the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station in Dallas, to observe Cynodon spp. cultivars and expervars (experimental varieties) performance under minimal maintenance conditions. Fifty-six cultivars and/or expervars were established in 1981. The turf received 3 lbs. of soluble N per m² in three split applications in 1982 and 1983. It was mowed weekly at a height of 1.5 inches with clippings returned to simulate low maintenance conditions. Fourteen additional expervars were added to the trial in 1983, making the total 70. During this time several cultivars ranked higher than other cultivars, and initial evaluations showed several expervars have potential for use under low maintenance conditions. This trial is based on only two years of data; further testing is needed to substantiate the adaptability of these experimental varieties.
