Abstract/Contents:"Studies were conducted at the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station at Dallas to determine the infuence of aeration and sand top dressing on bentgrass quality and properties of a sand-based green. Aeration increased water infiltration, hydraulic conductivity, and bulk density but decreased organic matter at the 0- to 7.6-cm (3-inch) depth. Sand top dressed at 2-week intervals decreased water infiltration on aerated and nonaerated greens. Treatments did not influence pH of the sand-based green or appearance of the bentgrass during the period of study. These data indicate that aeration and topdressing treatments should not be applied to sand-based greens until there is evidence of compaction, thatch, reduced water infiltration, or some other property that needs modification."
