| Abstract/Contents: | "Severe damage to perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) turf was observed during the abnormally dry months of August, September, October and November 1980 at Adelphia, New Jersey. Upon close examination, numerous Japanese beetle (Popillia japonica), Northern masked chafer (Cyclocephala borealis) and sod webworm (Crambus spp.) larvae were discovered in the thatch and upper soil layer. The turf was subsequently rated and sampled to determine if the relationship between turf damage and larvae population was significant." Outlines the life cycle of the sod webworm and treatment methods. Tables include percent of green turf cover of perennial ryegrass cultivars; number of sod webworms counted with 303 cm2; samples of perennial ryegrass, tall fescue, and Kentucky bluegrass. |
