Abstract/Contents:"The study was conducted at the Willow Hollow Golf Course, Leesport (Berks County), PA, on perennial ryegrass maintained as a golf course fairway, mowed three times per week at 0.75-inch cutting height. The experimental area was treated with Dimension 1EC at the rate of 1.1 fl oz per 1000 sq ft on 20 Apr for control of crabgrass. On 28 Apr Primo 1EC was applied as a growth regulator at the rate of 0.75 fl oz per 1000 sq ft to reduce clipping yield. On 28 May the test area was fertilized (21-3-14) with 1.2 lbs nitrogen per 1000 sq ft. Merit 75WP was applied at 6.4 oz per acre on 2 Jun for control of insects. On 23 Jun and 13 Aug respectively, ProStar 70WP (2.1 oz per 1000 sq ft) and Subdue Maxx 2MC (1.0 fl oz per 1000 sq ft) were applied for control of brown patch and Pythium foliar blight. Treatment plots, 3 ft x 12 ft, were arranged in a randomized complete block design with four replications. Fungicides were applied with a CO₂-powered boom sprayer equipped with TeeJet 8004 nozzles at 40 psi, in water equivalent to 2 gal per 1000 sq ft. Treatment applications were begun on 6 Jul, and continued on a 14-day interval through September, unless otherwise noted in the table. On 23 Aug the experimental area was inoculated with P. grisea, and covered with a polyethylene sheet overnight to maintain leaf wetness and reduce radiational cooling during the night. The test area was then allowed to grow to a two-inch height, and was maintained at that height through September. Disease incidence was evaluated on 14 and 29 Sep. Data were subjected to analysis of variance and multiple comparisons of the mean values were made using the Waller-Duncan k-ratio test. Environmental conditions were conducive for gray leaf spot development during early September, and disease incidence was high. In this study, Chipco Triton, the Polyoxorim Zn high-rate treatment applied on a 28-day interval, as well as the 4 oz rate of Polyoxorim Zn did not provide significant control. Disease assessment on 14 Sep indicated that Compass at the 0.2 and the 0.25 oz rates, each of the three triazole fungicides (Lynx, Bayleton, and Banner Maxx) tank-mixed with Daconil Ultrex, the Heritage + Daconil Ultrex combination, and Daconil Ultrex alone provided excellent control of gray leaf spot. Disease assessment on 29 Sep also indicated that the same treatments and Heritage provided good control of gray leaf spot. Daconil Ultrex, alone or in combination with other fungicides, provided excellent control throughout the study, including the Lynx + Daconil Ultrex combination, in which the Daconil Ultrex rate was 1.82 oz."
